Since returning from vacation, I have been getting tons of emails asking about the Disney Star Tours Build a Droid. So here is my experience on building 32 Droids. First off I believe there is only 25 different domes, so I did use a couple duplicate domes, but with different bodies and legs.
How easy was it to build 32 Droids? Not that easy. Why you ask? It took me 5 trips to Hollywood Studios on different days to complete 32 different Droids. The reason being is only a certain amount of different Droid parts are available per day. My first day there, I was only able to build 6 different Droids, due to the parts limitation. I did ask the employee working the Build a Droid station about all the other missing parts and she said that they only put out a certain amount of different parts per day and that they rotate the droid parts daily. So parts you seen on Monday might not be there on Tuesday. I did confirm this by asking multiple employees working the Build a Droid station on different days and they all had the same answer.
Another issue is the wait. More then likely you will have to wait in line, due to the fact that only 2 people at a time are allow at the Build a Droid station. I found that the best time to go was about a hour before the store closed. The line was much shorter.
While it did take me 5 trips to make all the Droids I wanted, most of the parts were plentiful when put out, but there were a few Droid parts in short supply. The hardest parts to find and seemed a bit limited were:
1. All parts to make R2-D2.
2. Purple Droid parts.
3. All black Droid parts.
So what Droids did I build? I did take some quick photos of the 32 Droids I built which can be seen here.
