Maris Brood is a Jedi Padawan hiding on the planet Felucia after Order 66 in THE FORCE UNLEASHED. Rather than receiving formal training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, Brood was tutored by a Jedi warrior aboard a starship called the GRAY PILGRIM. Maris and her master were in the Outer Rim territories, and thus not immediately affected by Order 66. Feeling the ripples in the Force caused by the deaths of so many Jedi, Maris's master took his personal starfighter in search of answers. He never returned, but his last message revealed that the Jedi Order had been all but destroyed by Darth Vader. Maris set off in search of Vader, but before she could ever confront the Dark Lord, she was discovered by Jedi Master Shaak Ti, who convinced the angry padawan to disappear. Despite Shaak Ti's positive influence, Maris harbors a strong desire for revenge and is still intent on confronting Darth Vader. Adrianne Wilkinson (XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS) voices Maris Brood and performed motion-capture for the game. The figure features an all-new sculpt of the young female Zabrak padawan. Her costume is very non-traditional, owing more to Twi'lek Aayla Secura than that of such female Jedi as Luminara Unduli or Shaak Ti. The facial likeness to Wilkinson is minimal, but there is some resemblance. It certainly looks more like her than the image on the cardfront. The body has a slight pre-posed sculpt, with her hip cocked to the left. It's an odd stance that limits the poseability. As is, it rates an 8.5 out of 10.

Paint:
Her head, torso, and arms are molded in a pale flesh tone. The head has black paint apps to her hair and eyebrows. Her horns are a bright red. Her eyes aew white, with black lashes and pupils, and her lower eyelids are rimmed in red. Her torso has a dark brown paint app to her bikini-style split top, with red and silver accents Her lower torso has red and gray paint apps to the two belts slung on her hips, with silver accents. Her exposed flesh has been given a gray wash to accentuate her Dark Side immersion. Her pelvis and legs are molded in dark brown. Her right leg has a black paint app to the blaster holster on her hip, with a gray accent. Her boots are painted a dark charcoal, with medium tan decos to the straps on her shin armor. The armor is a metallic gunmetal gray. Her tonfa-style lightsabers are molded in deep translucent pink, with silver apps to the hilts. These have been given a dark gray wash to weather and age them. A running change appears to have occurred, where her skin tone is far more pale, almost ashy, in later date-stamped samples. Overall, a respectable 8.5/10.

Articulation:
Maris Brood has ball-jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, and ankles. Her chest, forearms, and hips are planer-cut jointed. Ball-jointed knees would've been preferrable to the ankles: 8.5/10.

|
Accessories:
Brood comes with two pink-bladed, tonfa-style lightsabers, and a character-specific figure stand. A blaster for that holster (as well as a working holster) would've been nice: 8/10.

Packaging:
The new 30th Anniversary Collection card uses stylized "painted" imagery of the characters on the individual cards, with the new STAR WARS logo in stark white and cut in on an angle. It's a design that initially had collectors divided: you either loved the new look or hated it! The film each figure comes from is at the bottom right edge of the card, while the character's number in the collection is on the blister insert. Maris Brood is 2008 figure number 11, from THE FORCE UNLEASHED. The card front image is a concept art rendering that doesn't look much like Wilkinson. The cardback has a concept painting of Brood on Felucia (greatly resembling actress Wilkinson), and has text that explains the character's role in the game and a "Character Profile": 8.5/10

Availability:
As of this writing, the figure has been appearing at retail for just over a month, and is also available from various online sources. It's still scarce in areas where 2008 wave 1 hasn't shipped in quantity. Many collectors have still not managed to find this one at retail, yet in other regions, it's already a pegwarmer: 6.5/10.

Conclusion:
Maris Brood immediately turned heads when concept art of her started to appear for THE FORCE UNLEASHED. A female Zabrak Jedi running around nearly topless, along with a scantily-clad Shaak Ti ... riding Battle Rancors? Fanboys nearly had convulsions! While still a pretty sweet concept, the execution is just a bit flawed. We might have overlooked those flaws if we had a Shaak Ti figure to drool over, but Hasbro dropped the ball on that one, gang. Still, she rates an 8.1/10.
