Sculpt:
Cyborg leader of the Separatists droid army General Grievous is a formidable enemy in STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. He is the brutal pawn of Darth Sidious and Count Dooku, and minimal superior to Asajj Ventris. The all-new sculpt is based on the computer-generated animation design for the character. The sculpt adequately captures the new look, which mixes elements of Japanese anime with Gerry Anderson-style marionettes. While basically accurate to the animation design, some details appear to have been sacrificed for articulation: 8.5 out of 10.
Paint:
Grievous is molded in the ivory color of his duraplast armor. His head has pink, yellow, and black paint apps to his eyes, as well as gunmetal gray and silver apps to his facial mask. There are gunmetal apps to his neck and torso, and metallic green apps to the organ sack under his chestplate. His arms and lower torso/pelvis are molded in gunmetal gray, with ivory paint apps to his armored sections. His legs are molded in ivory, with gunmetal apps at his knees. His lower legs and feet are molded in gunmetal gray. His lightsabers are molded in translucent green and blue, and have silver paint apps to the hilts. His battle-damaged head has brownish decos representing blaster scorching to the facial armor: 9/10.
Articulation:
Grievous has ball-jointed head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees, and feet, with planer-cut forearms and hinged ankles. That's an impressive 16 points of articulation: 9.5/10.
Accessories:
Grievous comes with two lightsabers, two snap-on battle-damaged arms, snap-on battle-damaged head, removable shoulder guards, removable chestplate, Galactic Battle game card, base, and gaming die: 9/10.
Packaging:
The new CLONE WARS card uses a tapered, rectangular card with a blue-themed background representing a planetary night sky. The STAR WARS logo and "The Clone Wars" are printed in white on the far left side of the card. A stylized image of each character is in the upper right hand corner of the card, with the image trailing off down the entire right side. The figure's name and collection number is printed on the blister insert (Grievous is CW10). Each figure's special feature is printed in white (Grievous' "Interchangeable Battle-Damage Parts" are featured). The insert also holds the figure's Galactic Battle game card, and highlights the game die and base/figure stand. The cardback features "The Clone Wars" logo, an image of the character from the episode it appears in, and features text that explains the character's role in the episode: 8.5/10.
Availability:
Grievous has been appearing at retail for less than a month now. It appeared in good quantities, and the figure is also available at various online shops: 9/10.
Conclusion:
General Grievous appears semi-regularly throughout THE CLONE WARS, and is depicted as more of a self-serving warrior than an outright coward, as he was in REVENGE OF THE SITH. The animated version of the character has a streamlined design that preserves his unsettling, alien appearance: 8.9/10.
