The purpose of this review is to focus on the video and audio quality of this Blu-ray Disc set and not review the individual episode story lines of Star Wars: Rebels Season 4. This year I am using a new Sony VPL-VW385ES 4K Projector that will throw an image on my 150” screen. These Blu-ray Disc will be played in a Sony UBP-X800 Ultra HD Player. For audio I will be using a Denon AVR-X6300H Receiver configured with a 11.2 speaker setup. The review will be short and straight to the point.

Video / Picture Detail:
Codec: MPEG-4 AVC
Resolution: 1080p
Aspect ratio: 1.78:1

Star Wars: Rebels Season 4 on Blu-ray has a native resolution of 1080P, so I watched a few episodes in 1080P (non-upscaled) and as with most CG Animation Movies and TV shows the image was just awesome on the screen. The images had very vibrant and bold colors with deep blacks and no blurring or artifacts. Images were extremely sharp with clean edges. The lighting and shadow effects were top notch and I really have to applaud Lucasfilm for using some amazing texture effects in the environments, characters, vehicles, and etc that just gave the images that extra touch.

While I do watch Star Wars: Rebels on Disney XD (HD) when it airs on TV, I find the Video / Audio experience more enjoyable on Blu-ray then TV. This has to do with the direct Blu-Ray transfer vs. current TV compression practices due to bandwidth limitations.

Audio / Sound:
English: 5.1 Dolby Digital
French: 5.1 Dolby Digital
Spanish 2.0 Dolby Digital

English SDH

Disney is still sticking with Dolby Digital 5.1 which is not a bad thing, but I really wish they would also include Dolby TrueHD and or Dolby Atmos with their CG Animation Shows. Maybe this will happen when 4K Ultra HD becomes their new norm (hopefully soon).

My receiver will convert Dolby Digital 5.1 to 7.1 or 11.1, but for this review I locked it in at 5.1. As expected from Lucasfilm the audio was very outstanding. Character’s dialogue was very balanced with the sound effects and music score. Neither overpowered each other. Lucasfilm took advantage of the surround sound as well by making you feel as Laser blasts were zipping by you and putting you in the middle of explosions. It was a great experience.
